Based in London, Kate Gibb has worked as a Printmaker / Illustrator for over fifteen years from her makeshift print studio near Paddington. Since her first encounter with the technique within her earlier years at high school, she has remained a dedicated silkscreen obsessive.
A Degree in Printed Textiles at Middlesex University fuelled her love of colour & pattern, which still provide the basis for her daily creative approach. She has an intuitive relationship to the Silkscreen technique and her practice today remains predominantly self taught. The kind of printing she is inspired by relies on chance, hiccups & happy accidents to provide the inherent qualities that make up each piece. She views her process as continually evolving and experimental, choosing to focus on 'one - off' pieces when not working to a commercial brief.
Represented by creative agency 'Big Active' since around 2000, her client base spans the fields of Music, Fashion, Advertising, Editorial works & the Publishing world.
2013 saw her launch her personal website featuring a print shop to purchase original pieces alongside a blog to keep up with her latest print tests, news and projects.
Commercially she is renowned for her Music related sleeve artwork, most notably for a long standing relationship with British based musicians 'The Chemical Brothers'.
Non-Commercially she continues to explores the silkscreen process, its tactile nature and the subtle nuances achievable highlighting the many characteristics typical of her work.
I love the Silkscreen process and never seem to tire of it. Work is play to me for the majority of my time.. for the rest it is a great way of life.
