Modern German Posters 1890-1933
Even before World War II, fin-de-siecle art magazines such as PAN and Jugend as well as the graphic design work of Bauhaus were already well-known in Japan. In spite of their wide recognition, however, no exhibitions have been held to connect the two eras and present the development of German graphics at the time - or, particularly, to introduce the entire scope of modern poster design. In the extraordinary exhibition at The National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto, approximately 180 items including works and other materials that represent the reception and development of German posters in contemporaneous Japan - such as the "Calpis" International Poster Design Competition, the activities of SUGIURA Hisui and the "Nananin-sha" and the "Exhibition of World War Posters" - will be on display, thus presenting the opportunity to inspect the appeal and advanced nature of German posters circa 1890-1933 from various perspectives.
Exhibition from Feb 26th until March 30th 2008 Opening hours: 9:30 until 17:00 (Tickets are available until 30 min. before closing) Closed: every Monday Location: The National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto

Tadashi Kawamata’s “Walkway”
Viewers, through their own movement, produce an exhibition that never ends. What do people look at, in what way? If there were a wall, how would it affect the flow of people? In a certain place, people collect, sit down, make discoveries. . . .
Tadashi Kawamata is a “walkway”. Tracing Kawamata’s journey of the past 30 years, from 1978 to 2008, we see that his career has been a continuing attempt to connect-and be a “walkway” between”-art and the everyday.

Munch at Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Contemporary Art
The Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863 - 1944) is well known in Japan for his symbolic representations of modern humanity’s isolation and decadence. This exhibition offers the chance to view around 110 pieces that include famous oil paintings such as “vampire”, “anxiety”, and “girl with red hair” along with rarely seen architectural decoration plans. This is the first attempt at deciphering Munch in association with decoration, a firm eye placed on how he tried to express himself through his work.

"Post Coitum omne animas triste" Groupshow in Aoyama
About exhibition : "Post coitum omne animal triste" is an old Latin phrase that means "After sex, all animals are sad." In this exhibition seven artists visualize their perception on sexuality from the post-sex perspective where sex is apparently no longer any taboo to reveal. The exhibition does not address the act in itself, but rather its dramatical aftermath.
Exhibition is open : 12 to 7 PM everyday between 26 Jan - 8 Feb Location : MHT 2F Gallery (Marie Helene de Taillac Bldg 2F in Aoyama)
Exhibiting : EGA HIROSHI + MISSLA LIBSEKAL、MEGUMI MATSUBARA、SEBASTIAN MAYER、RAJAN MEHTA、 FLORENT MENG、MICKE THORSBY、VALENTIN
