Josef Muller-Brockmann
Born in Rapperswil, Switzerland, Josef Muller-Brockmann (1914- 1996) was a hugely influential graphic designer and teacher. He studied architecture, design and art history at the Zurich School of Applied Arts before setting up his own studio in Zurich specializing in graphic design, exhibition design and photography.
In 1958 he became a founding editior of the journal ‘New Graphic Design' and in 1966 he was appointed European design consultant to IBM. He authored many influential books on graphic design including ‘Grid Systems in Graphic Design',‘History of the Poster’ and ‘A History of Visual Communication'.
His work is characterized by its simple designs and clean use of typography, shapes, and colors which continue to influence graphic designers around the globe.
