In 1957 Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann developed a font called Neue Haas Grotesk for the Haas Type Foundry in Munchenstein, Switzerland. In 1960 the font was renamed Helvetica, derived from /Helvetia,/ the Latin name for Switzerland and the rest is history.
